I’m a web designer / front-end developer
I started working in the online industry professionally in 1998. Prior to that I was online building websites for myself and others as early as 1995.
I’ve been a production assistant pounding out table based pages by the 100’s. I can find a table layout code error in just a few minutes by visually scanning 100’s of lines of code. This used to be my party trick to wow and amaze.
Now I’m very grateful for CSS (Cascading Stylesheets) and the adoption of standards by the popular browsers. As much as I learned to love tables, I was glad to see the end of table based layouts.
Previously I held the position of Online Operations Manager of a large newspaper website team. I was responsible for managing all incoming projects, the advertising maintenance system and setting up a content management system that is still in use today.
I’ve been an independent contractor and a full-time corporate webmaster. I’ve written database driven search sites (this one too), real estate directories and developed multilingual websites. I spent a year working with mobile applications and a year working with Flex development.
I was credited in an article by the Poynter Institute. And my artwork was featured on Adobe TV introducing their Kuler web based color scheme generation software. You can read my Kuler profile and have a look at (even download) my color schemes.
I love content management systems, especially WordPress, and other open source technologies. WordPress is small, powerful and easy for clients and non-technical folks to maintain. It provides a degree of separation of code and content that is essential when managing a website.
I enjoy working with social media applications and feel they are very useful for businesses. Competition is tough, social media along with good SEO practices level the playing field. They also give you a useful way to connect with your customers, your fans and keep abreast of the trends.
I guess you could describe me as very passionate about web development and design.
I’m also a mixed-media artist. I paint mixed-media portraiture, contemporary seascapes and abstracts. I love to alter books and belong to a few great groups of artists where we enjoy collaborating on projects.
Whether it’s web development or art I love color, composition and layout. Oh and problem solving and organization are two of my greatest strengths.
If your still reading I thank you, and you might be interested to know that I am an INTJ (it’s kinda obvious isn’t it?).
Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about me.
